The Spring Festival refers to the traditional Chinese New Year in the cultural circle of Chinese characters.

The traditional names of the Spring Festival are New Year, New Year, New Year, but verbally, it is also called "Liu Sui", "Celebrating the New Year", and New Year's Day. In ancient times, the Spring Festival used to refer to the beginning of spring in the solar terms, and it was also regarded as the beginning of the year. Later, it was changed to the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar as the new year. Generally, the New Year will not end until at least the fifteenth of the first lunar month (Shangyuan Festival). The Spring Festival is commonly known as the "New Year Festival" and is the most solemn traditional festival for the Chinese nation. Since the first year of Emperor Wu of the Han dynasty, the first day of the first month of the summer (lunar calendar) has been used" (ie "year"), and the date of the new year has been fixed and continues to this day. The new year is called "New Year's Day" in ancient times. After the 1911 Revolution of 1911, The Gregorian calendar (Gregorian calendar) began to be used to count the year, so January 1 of the Gregorian calendar was called the "New Year's Day", and the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar was called the "Spring Festival".[1]

During the Spring Festival, my country's Han and many ethnic minorities will hold various activities to celebrate. These activities are mainly based on offering sacrifices to gods and Buddhas, paying homage to ancestors, removing the old and clothing the new, welcoming the jubilee and receiving blessings, and praying for a good harvest. The activities are rich and colorful, with strong national characteristics.

On May 20, 2006, the "Spring Festival" folk custom was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists.

On December 7, 2007, the 198th executive meeting of the State Council approved the Spring Festival as a national legal holiday.
